10 Plausible Predictions For Kingdom Hearts 3
Updated: Apr 11, 2020
The hype for Kingdom Hearts 3 hasn’t died down since it was first announced at E3 in 2013. It’s now been close to 3 years since that announcement and we still have no real release date and only a few things confirmed for the franchise’s 12th game in the series.
The only things that have been confirmed so far include: a Corona (Tangled) world, San Fransokyo (Big Hero 6) as a world, as well as the return of Twilight Town, The Mysterious Tower and Olympus Coliseum (Hercules) – but perhaps a new section of it (it’s speculated that it’s Mount Olympus). It has also been shown in trailers that there is a new battle system that includes what seems to be Disney park rides eg. Big Magic Mountain and Mad Hatter’s Tea Cup Ride (it’s rumoured that these are used a summons). As well as the use of Attraction flow that made it’s entry in 2012’s Kingdom Hearts game Dream Drop Distance. It’s also confirmed that this is the end of the Xehanort saga but not the end of the Kingdom Hearts franchise as a whole.
With all the excitement around this topic there have been many fan speculations and predictions as for what this game has in store so I’ve compiled a list of the 10 most plausible ones, in my opinion.
please note: these are not confirmed in any way, they’re just some theories I have heard from other fans.
10. Star Wars
The least likely, likely thing on my list is a Star Wars world or any Star Wars involvement. I know from personal experience that there is a divide of people. People that love the idea of Star Wars in Kingdom Hearts, people that love Star Wars but don’t want it in Kingdom Hearts and people that hate Star Wars/have never seen it. I personally wouldn’t want Star Wars to make it into Kingdom Hearts 3, even though I am a fan of Star Wars in general. However with the positive response The Force Awakens received, it looks like it could possibly make it’s way into Kingdom Hearts 3. My reasoning behind not wanting Star Wars to make it in is similar to the problem I have with Port Royal and The Grid in Kingdom Hearts 2 and Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance. I personally don’t like the mix of live action and animation, I also think that the whole idea of Kingdom Hearts is based on magic and Disney and although Lucasfilm is owned by Disney now, I can’t see the Star Wars universe fitting in well with other Disney worlds such as Corona or San Fransokyo. If it is the case that Square Enix are including films owned by the Disney as well as Disney animated films, what’s stopping them from including Marvel, Indiana Jones, Pixar or even The Muppets?
9. The Jungle Book
As one of Disney’s most iconic animated films of all time, The Jungle Book has every right to be part of the Kingdom Hearts universe. So why hasn’t it been put in yet? All of you avid Kingdom Hearts fans will already know that there was originally a Jungle Book world planned for Kingdom Hearts Birth By Sleep but it was scrapped for whatever reason. You can however still access the world’s code via the use of cheat codes, Kingdom Hearts youtuber: TheGamersJoint demonstrates this in one of his videos. Perhaps this world was taken out due to time restraints and put away for another instalment, if this is the case a Jungle Book level could make it’s way into Kingdom Hearts 3.
8. Lilo & Stitch
A film I’m very much hoping for in Kingdom Hearts 3 is one of my favourites, Lilo & Stitch! This wouldn’t be the first time that this film has been used in the Kingdom Hearts franchise either. Stitch has previously been used as a summon in Kingdom Hearts 2 and also featured in Birth By Sleep in a world based on his time before he met Lilo, Deep Space. However what I and a few other fans are hoping for is a world based in Hawaii or more involvement from other characters like Nani, Lilo and Pleakley. An idea that’s been floating around online for a while now is having Lilo & Stitch involved like how 101 Dalmatians were in the first Kingdom Hearts game. You’d collect 99 Dalmatian puppies throughout the entire game but instead of puppies you could collect all of Jumba’s experiments like in the Disney Channel Lilo and Stitch tv series. Seeing as there are now 4 films in the Lilo and Stitch franchise as well as a tv series and even an anime based on the film, it’s safe to say that Lilo and Stitch is another one of Disney’s iconic films so it has a high chance of appearing in Kingdom Hearts 3.
7. Wreck it Ralph
Wreck it Ralph is an idea that always pops up whenever you mention this topic. Everybody wants a Wreck it Ralph world, including myself! I mean a film based on video games, IN A VIDEO GAME? The only obvious problem with this one would be where to base it due to copyright of the game characters owned by Sega, Nintendo, etc. One possible way around this is to base it in the Disney original worlds such as Litwak’s Arcade or Sugar Rush, or maybe even replacing the video game characters with Square Enix characters? could you imagine Game Central Station being flooded with Final Fantasy or The World Ends With You characters? Seeing as this film is so highly requested in the Kingdom Hearts fan base, Square Enix may be onto something if they choose to put this film into Kingdom Hearts 3.
6. A 2017 Release Date
There have been countless rumours and fake articles about the release date of Kingdom Hearts 3 ever since it was first announced in 2013. Since this is such a highly anticipated game, news travels very fast concerning release dates so just to confirm – at the time of writing this February 2016 – there is yet to be a release date announced for Kingdom Hearts 3. However, a lot of fans have speculated that the game could be set to release some time during 2017. If we take into consideration the fact that the game was officially announced in development in June 2013, if the game were to come out in 2017 that gives it roughly 4 years development time. Considering all the changes that have to be made to bring Kingdom Hearts to a new generation of consoles and all the new features that have been promised with this game, the developers may need longer than just 4 years… but at the same time, it isn’t impossible. We don’t know how much work has been done and how much work is left to be done on Kingdom Hearts 3, it could be closer or way further than we expect. As much as I’d love for KH3 to be released next year, I think it may take a bit longer than 4 years, my guess is a 2018/2019 release date (hopefully!).
5. New Final Fantasy Characters Being Added
Anyone that has played a Kingdom Hearts game before is usually aware of the presence of Final Fantasy characters. The obvious ones are Cloud, Yuffie, Tifa, Cid, Sephiroth & Aerith (FFVII), Squall/Leon, Selphie (FFVIII) & Vivi (FF IX) Tidus, Wakka and Auron (FFX). As well as the occasional Moogle popping up, to name a few. You also have Neku, Shiki, Beat, Rhyme and Joshua – characters from another Square Enix Release The World Ends With You – featuring in Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance. So what with a new Kingdom Hearts game being released that is set in a time after the events of Kingdom Hearts 2, does this mean newer Final Fantasy characters may also be featured in this instalment? Or maybe just some that were missed the first time around? Some fans have voiced a few characters that they would like to see in Kingdom Hearts 3 including: the obvious new choice, Lightning from Final Fantasy XIII but seeing as FFXIII hasn’t been touched upon in the Kingdom Hearts universe yet; any of the characters from that game could be included. Including the likes of: Snow, Serah, Hope, Vanille or Sazh (all FFXIII) other choices for KH3 are: Chocobos (Since FFII), Cecil (FFIV) Vaan or Basch (FFXII) and Rinoa (FFVIII).
4. The Wayfinder Trio from Birth By Sleep Reunion.
(warning: mild Birth By Sleep spoilers) In Birth By Sleep (2010) we find out what happened before and the events that led up to Sora getting the Keyblade in the first Kingdom Hearts game. In this game you play as Terra, Aqua and Ventus; 3 keyblade wielders training under Keyblade master Master Eraqus (fans have dubbed them the “Wayfinder trio”). Two of them are training for their mark of mastery exam until one of them doesn’t pass and gets too involved with darkness. I’m not going to explain the whole plot as it’ll either spoil it for people that haven’t played it or i’ll be repeating the story for the people that already know it, but basically the trio get split up at the end of the game and it has been left like that since the 2010 instalment of Kingdom Hearts. Many fans of the trio are hoping for a reunion of Terra, Aqua and Ventus and for their situation to be cleared up. I can see this happening in Kingdom Hearts 3 as the story in Birth By Sleep is the start of the Xehanort Saga that we know so far so it would only make sense for it to be cleared up in the last game featuring the Xehanort Saga. That being said though, we still have the release of Kingdom Hearts 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue being released this year (similar to the previous HD remixes 1.5 and 2.5) which contains Kingdom Hearts 0.2: Birth By Sleep – A Fragmentary Passage. This is a new part of the Birth By Sleep story that takes place after the events of Birth By Sleep from Aqua’s point of view. This could give us more information on how likely a Wayfinder Trio reunion could be in Kingdom Hearts 3.
3. The Return of Utada Hikaru
It would be hard to find a fan of Kingdom Hearts that doesn’t know the lyrics to it’s two theme songs: Simple and Clean/Hikari (KH1) and Sanctuary/Passion (KH2). These two songs were recorded by Japanese singer and songwriter: Utada Hikaru in both languages and are used in every Kingdom Hearts game so far. Utada briefly took a break from music in 2010 to focus on family life but it’s said that she’s set to return in early 2016. Does this mean she’s working on a new theme for Kingdom Hearts 3? I mean, I can’t see a brand new shiny instalment of a game with so much hype around it using the same old theme song, can you?
2. Toy Story World
This is one of the suggestions that ALWAYS comes up whenever you search for Kingdom Hearts 3 possible worlds as it’s one that almost everybody wants! Imagine the potential of exploring Andy’s house, Sunnyside Daycare or even Al’s Toy Barn! Much like the Jungle Book world that was scrapped, there were also models of Buzz and Woody found in the game’s code that were originally planned to be summons in Kingdom Hearts II: Final Mix. Does this mean that Toy Story involvement has been planned for a while now? and if so, what’s stopping other Pixar films being added such as Monsters Inc. or The Incredibles?
I’m sure everybody saw this one coming but it’s one that has generated the most buzz, like Star Wars this one has a split decision with half of the fans wanting a Frozen world and the other half despising the thought of Frozen making it’s way into Kingdom Hearts 3. I personally would love to see Arendelle as a playable world in KH3 and seeing as it’s the ninth highest-grossing film, the highest-grossing animated film, the highest-grossing 2013 film, the highest-grossing Walt Disney Pictures release and the fourth highest-grossing film distributed by Disney; I’d say it’s pretty likely to be put into Kingdom Hearts. It would be pretty hard to find someone out there that doesn’t know who Elsa is or what Frozen is these days.
So there you have it, my top 10 plausible predictions for Kingdom Hearts 3, these are just a few of the ideas that people have come out with for what Square Enix may have in store for us in the next few years. If you have any other plausible ideas for Kingdom Hearts 3, leave a comment. I’m sure I’ll do some other Kingdom Hearts related posts soon.
